Sleep Training Lucy.

Here is my 1st on-line journal entry. I have decided to switch over to on-line as I go to my laptop to check my emails anyways and it is less paper to deal with. I can also edit it much easier than with paper. Jeremy helped me set up 2 on-line blog accounts; one private and one public. He is so wonderful! He has been so patient with me through my intimidations with doing stuff on-line. But here I am. I am getting there. I am doing an on-line journal.

Lucy has been waking up A LOT during the night and ever since I moved her from the bassinet to the Pack & Play she does not sleep good any more. There is much more room in there for her to roll around, where as she had very restricted space in the bassinet. I also got her into some bad habits by nursing her too much during the night and nursing her to sleep. I also brought her into bed with me as I was that tired I just wanted to sleep. So I am sleep training her as of right now I am going cold turkey on her for the 1st time.

Lucy sleeping soundly at 2 months old, form 5 weeks she was sleeping a 8 hour straight stretch, her naps were great in the bassinet too.  She was an easy infant, till she moved into the pack and play, but even with less sleep she was always a contented baby, who nursed well.

This is the HARDEST part of parenting for me! I would much rather pick her up and give her the breast but she has been waking me up 4-5 times a night and I am just exhausted. She also is NOT getting the sleep she needs either and I just do not want to wait 'till she is two before I sleep train her properly like I did with her brother. But she is a much easier baby than her brother, I just have to stick with it.

So I am sitting in a rocking chair to the side of her right now listening to her cry. Not fun :-( It is helping me to type this out though.  I think so I will always remember this for how hard it is but also for the victory I am believing the Lord will bring through it. I mean Micah sleeps WONDERFULLY now.

The Lord gave me this scripture, Psalm 29:11, "The Lord will give [unyielding and impenetrable strength] to His people, the Lord will bless His people with peace." (AMP version) The Lord also gave me the scripture of "I will keep Him in perfect peace who's mind is stayed on thee," in song as I was introducing her to her new bedtime routine. So I sang it to her after I read her a book and put her down at 10:13am. It is now 10:38 and she is still crying but she has calmed down some. Well actually she just got fired up again just as I typed that. So I am looking up scriptures on peace trying to find where the above verse is. This is helping me to keep my mind on the word, searching through scriptures on peace. It is hard to give up or loose my patience when you are looking up scriptures on peace!

OK so now it is 10:48 and VICTORY!! I did it! Lucy is finally asleep with her teddy bear receiving blanket under her! She used this blanket to wrestle with as she rolled around trying to get to sleep. I think I will make this her new attachment item and call it "Blankie." I will have to come up with a more original name or maybe not as this will be easy for her to say. PRAISE THE LORD I did it!!!! I stayed in peace and sleep trained her!!! Wooooooooooooohooooooooooooooo!!!! I am feeling very proud of myself BUT of course I could not have done it without Him!

So it took 50 minutes. I a so proud of her! It was not as hard as with her brother! So I found the above verse it is in Isaiah 26:3 It is even cooler in the AMP version. Here is what it says. "You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You."

So I am very happy with the results. The Lord is awesome! Sometimes it is easy to forget how far you have come. I was a basket case when sleep training Micah. I thought I was going to loose my mind! I LOVE my little girl. I just peeked in on her, she was laying down on her belly on top of her blankie. I walked out of the room feeling very relieved and proud!
